Tresco Estate

History

Datasharp first took over the maintenance of the Tresco Islands phone system back in 1998.

Requirements

Over the last few years there has been a large development encompassing the Tresco Estate including a new office, new cottages, a restaurant, a shop and a health spa. To operate effectively and efficiently Tresco Estate understood that they needed a centralised phone system that serviced all of these sites

On consultation with Datasharp, Tresco Estate chose to install a variety of Siemens systems served by a fibre and cat 5e network allowing the presentation of any sort of voice and data application to any unit on the site. Datasharp also recommended an IP link between sites to cut the cost of inter site calls.

Solution

Datasharp installed a HiPath 3350 in the Tresco Abbey, a HiPath 3550 in the Hell Bay Hotel, a HiPath 3550 in the New Inn and HiPath 3800 in the Island Hotel and Estate Office. Datasharp set up a new voice WAN via broadband connections and networked the Siemens systems together. The final outcome was that any extension on the 5 sites situated on 2 different islands could dial a 3 digit extension number and route via the Wide Area Network to the other systems on the network.

This was particularly liked by the island owner who can now look at the display of the phone and see who is calling him via the internal names of the phone systems i.e. From: Hell bay bar etc. This has allowed the hotels to interact much more effectively. Another example of this is clear in their room information packs; if a guest is on a day trip and would like to have lunch in the sister hotel they can call an extension number which is routed to the reception of the hotel on the other island. Thus, allowing the guest to book a table directly for that restaurant, removing the need to relay messages between receptions and bars.
